Welcome to Brews Of Root Extraction Online. This post reviews Mug root beer…This was the “regular” corn-syrup-sweetened variety in the “mini” 7.5-ounce cans. It was purchased at a local store, $10 for a 10-pack. I believe Pepsico produces Mug.
I use five criteria I score from 1-5 to evaluate brews.
A. Sweetness: 4. Like most sodas it’s a little too sweet, and with the lack of other flavors the sugar really comes through. But it’s not horrible, especially if there’s some ice to dilute the sugar.
B. Lightbody spices: 2. It’s hard to detect much of anything, but I get a tiny hint of wintergreen.
C. Heavybody spices: 3. Vanilla, and that’s it.
D. Uniqueness: 1. This is about as flavorless a root beer (other than sweetness which it has plenty of) as I’ve found.
E. Mouthfeel: 3. Pretty thin and flat, but not offensive.
Total score 13/25. This brand survives on the strength of Pepsi, but I don’t recommend it.
